Different view

This fabulous old hand tiller was considered useless. It’s totally outdated compared with the many mechanized tilling options available today.

But when I saw it – I saw something beautiful. A tangible piece of history.

How many hands had moved this tiller across their land? How many times did this gem do the work that needed to be done? How many seasons did it see? How many conversations did it absorb?

So. Much. History.

The tiller is now enjoying a much-earned retirement as a decorative piece on our little homestead.

I’ve heard “there’s nothing interesting about what we do” many times over the years.

Think your product or service is boring? Think there’s nothing unique about it? Think there’s not a thing people would want to read about what you do? Think again!

It’s amazing what opening your mind to the possibilities and viewing your offerings differently can accomplish. The creative ideas that can flow from being willing to view it as if you’re seeing it for the first time.

Try ditching the “it’s not exciting” thought and replacing it with questions. Ask yourself what your customers see. The value your product or service brings. The need it fills. The history behind your company. The skill required to do what you do. The beauty of your product.

Maybe your company needs a fresh look – marketing materials, branding, website. Or maybe the look is just fine, it’s the uninspiring, unenthusiastic copy and content (or lack thereof) that needs a little TLC.

Today – try to shed the “there’s nothing interesting about it” view of what you do. If you have to call in a friend and ask them to tell you what they see – do it! If you have to paint a wall lime green to liven up your office space – do it! If you have to do a headstand to get a different view – do it!

Do whatever it takes to break free from the same old mindset in order to find the amazing. It’s there. I promise. You just have to be willing take a different view.
